How do I share a file that I have uploaded to FileFactory?

You can upload files in two ways:

  1. As an anonymous user. You can upload files but will not be able to edit the filename, change the file description or remove the file.

  2. You can register for a free account and upload files. The files will then be added to your account and you then have the ability to modify the filename, file description, move files, create new folders, and remove files and folders. We recommend that you use this method.
Once you have uploaded a file, after the upload completes you will be presented with a page which includes the filename(s) and URL of the file(s). The URL format of a FileFactory file looks like this:

Picture 1.png
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ah45441/n/Picture_1_png

The number ah45441 represents the unique identifier of the file. The /n/Picture_1_png represents the filename of the file which is automatically added to the URL.

You can distribute a file with or without the filename at the end of the URL.

For example
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ah45441/
will work because we automatically add the filename at the end of the URL.

You can share a file in many ways:

  1. Email a file to someone else.

There are three ways to do this:

    a) After your uploads are complete you can email the file links through our website. Simply enter your email address and your recipient emails (up to 5 different emails separated by a comma) and press send.

    b) If you are a registered member, you can navigate to your file manager by signing in and clicking Files on the top right hand page of any page. Then find the file in your file list, select the file by clicking the check box, right click with your mouse button and select “Email Link”. You can select many files at once using this method. An email will then be sent to your recipient including all the links you selected.

    c) Simply create a new email in your email program and copy and paste the links of your files. This way you can format your email any way you like. If you are a registered member and uploaded the files into your account, you can see the link of your file by finding the file in your file manager and right clicking the link icon and copying the link using your browser.

  2. Post a link on a forum

You can usually find the necessary forum code at the bottom of any file page. The format is usually something like this:
    Download Picture 1.png from FileFactory.com

Simply copy that code and paste it into your forum post.  This option is also available via the "Export Links" right click option in the File Manager after one or more files.

  3. Post a link on your blog, social networking profile or website.

You can find the html link at the bottom of your file page. Simply copy the code and paste it into your blog, social networking profile or website. Please note that you need to have enough privileges to be able to edit HTML in order for you to do this. You can normally edit the HTML of blogs and MySpace profiles, but not Facebook.

To post a file on your Facebook profile, simply paste in the URL of the file: http://www.filefactory.com/file/ah45464/n/Picture_1_png

Friends on Facebook can then simply copy and paste the URL of the file into the address bar of their browser.  This option is also available via the "Export Links" right click option in the File Manager after one or more files.
